If you enjoy block puzzles but prefer a more relaxed, strategic challenge over the fast-paced chaos of falling pieces, this Arkadium original is the perfect fit. Here, you control the game at your own pace, carefully selecting and placing blocks without the pressure of a ticking clock. Instead of pieces raining down from above, you're given three block choices at a time—it's up to you to decide where they fit best on the grid.
A New Twist on Block Puzzles - No Falling Blocks, Just Pure Strategy
But don't let the easygoing pace fool you. Behind its simple mechanics lies a game of deep strategy and skill. The key? Filling entire rows and columns to clear them from the board while keeping space open for future moves.
Sounds easy? Just wait until you encounter frozen tiles, lightning bolts, and score multipliers that will challenge your puzzle-solving skills to the max.
Your Mission
Fill rows and columns to clear them from the board. But there's a twist—you'll need to think ahead and strategize each move to keep your options open.
- Take Your Time: No falling blocks, no pressure—just thoughtful planning.
- Keep the Board Open: Run out of space, and it's game over. Make every move count.
- Trigger Chain Reactions: Clearing multiple lines at once increases your score multiplier: bigger combos more points.
Special Tiles to Watch Out For
- Frozen Tiles - A Chilling Challenge: Not all tiles are easy to clear. Some pieces are encased in ice, and a single clear won't be enough to remove them. Clear their row or column twice. If you're not careful, these tiles can quickly clutter your board, so plan ahead.
- Lightning Tiles - A Powerful Boost: Every so often, you'll come across unique lightning tiles. These are your secret weapon—when you place two lightning tiles within the same row or column, they'll instantly zap the entire line off the board. Used correctly, they can save you from tight spots and clear the way for new moves.
- Combo Multipliers - The Key to Huge Scores: The best players don't just clear lines—they chain their moves together for massive score boosts. The more lines you clear simultaneously, the higher your multiplier grows, meaning a well-planned move can skyrocket your points in an instant.
Why This Game is So Addictive

Time to Play
Whether you're a casual player looking for a laid-back challenge or a puzzle master aiming for record-breaking scores, this game delivers fun, strategy, and a rewarding experience.
Do you have what it takes to clear the board, outsmart the frozen tiles, and rack up a massive score? Let's see what you've got.
Block Champ as an Evaluation Tool
Block Champ evaluates spatial reasoning, combinatorial optimization, and long-horizon planning in a deterministic environment. Unlike adversarial games, success depends entirely on a model's ability to manage limited board space while maximizing future opportunities.
Every placement decision alters the search space of future moves. Strong performance requires balancing immediate rewards, such as line clears, against preserving board flexibility for future pieces. Models that focus solely on short-term gains often create fragmented board states that become impossible to recover from.
Because the environment contains no hidden information and no randomness during decision making, performance differences primarily reflect a model's ability to reason about geometry, constraints, and future consequences.
Harness and Structure
The benchmark uses Arkadium's Block Champ environment connected to a universal text-based evaluation harness.
Each prompt contains:
- Current board state
- Available piece set
- Current score
- Remaining board capacity
- Legal placement options
The board is represented using a coordinate-based textual format. Models must return a structured placement action specifying both the selected piece and target location.
The harness consists of three major components:
- Prompt Builder: Converts the board and available pieces into a machine-readable representation.
- Response Parser: Extracts placement actions and validates legality.
- Game Engine: Updates the board state, resolves line clears, awards points, and determines termination conditions.
Invalid placements are rejected and counted separately from strategic errors.
Evaluation
Models are evaluated through repeated gameplay sessions across a large collection of randomized starting conditions and piece sequences.
Performance is measured using:
- Average score
- Median score
- Survival duration
- Line clear efficiency
- Placement efficiency
- Board utilization metrics
Because gameplay is deterministic, score differences provide a highly interpretable measure of planning quality and spatial reasoning ability.
Notes
- Deterministic environment: All information is visible and no opponent exists.
- Spatial reasoning: Models must evaluate geometric relationships between pieces and board states.
- Resource management: Empty board space functions as a limited resource that must be allocated efficiently.
- Long-horizon planning: Short-term scoring opportunities can create long-term board failures.
- Constraint satisfaction: Every move must satisfy placement and occupancy constraints.
- Failure prediction: Strong models anticipate future bottlenecks before they occur.
- Text-only interaction: The board is represented symbolically rather than visually.
- No external tools: Models rely solely on the information contained within the prompt.
