The Game

"The Ultimate Divine Smackdown," Pantheon hit the GDC in 2005 and brought the wrath of the gods to the conference. Each player was cast as a deity on one of four teams, ranging from Those Who Cannot be Named to The Intelligent Designers. Players received both virgin and follower stickers. The followers were strategically placed on battle maps spread throughout the conference. Virgin stickers were used to fill up volcanoes that earned each team more powerful followers. Players were forced to work together across the social and physical spaces of the conference in order to succeed.

The Design

One of our most ambitious GDC games, Pantheon’s design had a multi-stage strategy where players received new stickers over time at game HQ, which they deployed on five different arenas spread throughout the conference hall. Each team also decided how to level up their units by sacrificing virgin stickers in their team volcano. With more than a dozen kinds of units, Pantheon was our most deeply strategic conference game to date.
