The Game

Produced for Shockwave.com, LOOP is a single-player game about catching butterflies. That's right: butterflies. Straight from the Gamelab school of innovative gameplay, LOOP will change your relationship to your mouse forever. You play by drawing loopy lines to surround and snatch up flittering multicolored butterflies. With visuals that look like cut-paper collages and a music soundtrack that composes itself as you play, LOOP doesn’t look or feel like anything else out there.

The Design

In LOOP, all you do is draw lines with the mouse and make loops, never clicking – not even on the menu and interface screens for the game! A little-known feature of the game are the dream-poems that appear every fifth level. These are composed by randomly arranging lines of text in a way that always makes sense. The audio composition and programming, by Michael Sweet of AudioBrain, mixes a bass line with a melody line on the fly, creating a soundtrack that is never exactly the same twice.
